[ Well. It's not like Vi's had much occasion to go, either. Things have only gotten weirder (and worse) since then. And she's not sure she won't be kicked out if the owner spots her again.
Nor has she been keen on... reaching out. The message takes her by surprise.
Some part of her is relieved, though.
Not that she knows what to say. She settles on a completely uncreative: ]
Some idiot took pity on me and took me on at the Scrapyard. Maybe could lead to some good cash, I dunno. Better than warehouse duty and meager repair jobs.
[warehouse guard duty didn't pay badly if you weren't like Jinx paying more for one room than another but hey]
See how long it lasts I guess.
[before she pisses someone off because she wanted to get 'creative'. she's not optimistic but she's maybe gotta do something more than what she has been]
[ This seems like good news, right? A steadier job, at least for a bit. And Jinx gets to tinker with vehicles and bits and bobs with an actual purpose. She's already learned a lot about cars, but that's to be expected. She always was brilliant. ]
Sounds promising. maybe it'll be fun.
Are you driving yourself?
[ She's thinking about the gas money. Adjusting the mental math. Hopefully it does pay well. ]
[She's been doing the mental gas math herself, too. Uggggh. She might still have to pick up odd jobs, or hopefully something in a diffusion zone on the way. That usually shakes something out.
She's still not used to having to worry about dumb things like this, what the hell.]
I guess for the moment until I can find someone that shares similar shifts to mine that I can carpool with and is tolerable to be in a car with for two hours. Four hours total. There's gotta be someone, Scrapyard was picking up all sorts for extra hands.
[you can come home at night she's been trying to avoid that for long period of time. She didn't think about that. Having a day job. What, like a normal person?
Who's she kidding with this?
It's fine. She'll figure it out. Now she really needs someone to carpool with so she can sleep in the car. She doesn't think Laura works on cars.]
Yeah, day shifts. Free nights. Maybe hit some clubbing then, eh? There was that pop-up one a little bit ago. I meant to go.
[ She deletes so many messages. Types and deletes, feeling lost. The hope of it is what catches Vi off guard. It's what scares her.
They've fallen into a familiar, if somewhat strained pattern. The truth (the truth they both know and won't acknowledge) is that neither of them really knows how to be the other's sister anymore. How to coexist, in that symbiotic way that used to feel so natural, easy as breathing and nearly as important. Most days, they barely see each other.
Vi examines the chipped purple nail polish Jinx had put on her a week or two ago. ]
Yeah, yeah, loud, blaring music? That's my speed. [She tries not to get caught up on the fact that Vi wouldn't really know that.
It isn't like the radio usually has much good to listen to, and if she is blasting any music it's usually when she's in her makeshift workshop.] Less the people and the drinking, but hey, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
My friend Furiosa is helping me with my truck's towing arm. I'm thinking about using it to get a side hustle together, but if I'm going to be driving around, I'm not doing it alone.
[ Vi knows Furiosa well enough. She's less familiar with tow trucks, but that's self explanatory with the context. Doesn't sound like Nami is asking her to actually use it.

I know something weird was going on with both of us. But still. and you were at work.
